In any industry, it is important to keep a watchful eye on the future with regards to your enterprise. Where are you going, what are your goals and how is the market reacting? This is true of the various tools that your company utilizes to serve itself as well as to serve its end users. In the case of tech-based companies, or any company that employs any sort of cloud strategies, the booming development and evolution of the cloud is an important thing to keep an eye on.
A recent study commissioned byIDC regarding the future of cloud services reports that by the end of 2013, spending on public IT could services will reach $47.4 billion. While this is impressive, this market’s continued expansion is even more jaw-dropping, as by 2017 these same numbers are expected to reach an enormous $107 billion. Of the money spent, the most will be geared towards Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), which is projected to have 59.7 percent of market revenue by 2017. At the same time however, Platform-as-a-Service (Paas) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) are expected to grow the fastest.
Part of the reason for the vast expansion of spending projections resides in how the cloud is being implemented by businesses and the various steps that this will take. Frank Gens, senior VP and president and chief analyst at IDC, notes that the first step in cloud implementation and growth involves improving IT department efficiency. The second step, which will occur over the next several years, will be a shift to utilizing the cloud as a tool for innovation and a foundation for new and competitive offerings. Additionally, there will be a move towards the consolidation of services and overall commoditization, ending with providers gearing their offerings to a broader range of customers.
These facts will undoubtedly affect the cloud contact center market and other markets that leverage the power of cloud computing, but they will also impact the business world as a whole. As everything moves online, it has to have somewhere to go. The ever-evolving cloud space is where it is moving to.
